Abstract

This study envisages an international book publication approaching various traditions of materiality in different parts of the world as hybrid creations. The cultural dynamics are determined by the art of affect - a play on sensory modes, intuitions and impulses preceding the entropy of emotion or thought. Ritual, surprise and cultural reappropriation are some of the themes crosscutting the regional presentation of things.

Charm is used in the triple sense of a thing, a quality and a spell.

Vitor Gama's doctoral research in affective-material sonority unfolds in interaction (e.g., 'Installing a divination' in the Namib).
