The Hutereau expedition and chief Maloka. (Post)colonial layers of agency and exchange in NE Congo

Tabgroup

Abstract

The focus of this research is on how objects’ exchanges and transactions – interhuman relations in which these objects were mediators themselves – uncover hidden historical narratives, constituting the social lives of these ethnographic objects and local agency as well as influencing the history of the expedition and thus the museum collection itself.

Research within the frame of the Belspo-brain project CongoConnect.
