Abstract

The ARCHIVE project aims to discover the differences in language use and expression of subjectivity in corporate reporting between varieties of English such as British and American English and BELF (Business English as a Lingua Franca). It intends to combine rapidly developing NLP (Natural Language Processing) technologies such as readability and sentiment analysis with experimental studies and, in doing so, better determine the correlations between the linguistic features of a company’s reporting, its reader’s expectations of the company, and its performance proper. The project’s ultimate goal is the development of a prototype automated analysis tool capable of aiding companies in writing more transparent reports and readers in better decoding the text and figures based on linguistic predictors of performance and reception.
