I am a joint PhD candidate at the Universiteit Gent and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel conducting anthracological analysis of charcoal residues to answer questions related to fuel use of cremation contexts in the low countries (Bronze age - Early Medieval period). I completed my Master in Archaeology at the Universiteit Gent (2024) and worked as an archaeologist in Flanders (2025). My thesis concerned the application of X-ray Computed Tomography on wooden archaeological artefacts to perform dendrochronological analysis. This research enabled me to build up experience in identifying wood species which I will apply on charcoal within my PhD research. This joint PhD is part of the LOCO project which aims at a diachronic study of the transfer of materials, knowledge, technologies and ideas in the low countries.
