Mieke VANDENBROUCKE is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Ghent University. After defending her PhD at Ghent University in 2016, she was a Fulbright scholar at UC Berkeley. Her research interests lie at the intersection of sociolinguistics and urban geography with a particular interest in the impact of globalisation and migration on multilingual urban settings in Europe, language policy, nationalist ideologies and histories of conflict, inner-city gentrification and socio-economic stratification. She is currently working on an ethnographic project on discourse and multilingualism in marriage fraud investigations in Belgium. She has conducted fieldwork in Amsterdam, Brussels, Flanders and Kosovo and has published in international peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes including Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development (2015), Journal of Sociolinguistics (2016), Language in Society (2017), Multilingua (2018) and The Oxford Handbook of Language and Society (2016).
