Bookperformance, which is equally Performancebook, is a proprietary concept reflecting life, uncompromisingly written as a single word, coined by Çiğdem Mirol in 2011. As its originator and philosopher, Mirol has developed it across her artistic and academic (MA & PhD) practice. Deliberately written as a single word (all rights reserved in all languages), Bookperformance foregrounds the orientation of “holding space for life’s unfolding authorship” [ruimte houden voor het ontvouwen van het auteurschap van het leven / tenir l'espace où se déploie l’auctorialité de la vie], approaching co-authorship as an embodied, relational, and ethical practice based on "we are all one". Since 2011, Mirol has developed the theory and practice of Bookperformance across multilingual and international contexts as an author and artist/painter who incorporates her own self-invented synesthetic alphabet of sounds and colours into the act of writing, and reveals these elements through the act of reading in what she calls “multisensory reading-writing.” Bookperformance extends genuine resources of life across artistic, academic, and public spaces—including universities, schools, archives, festivals, conferences, libraries, and state institutions—where it intervenes in established yet often unquestioned practices of authority, authorship, knowledge-making, and promotes responsibility.
Yüzüm Kitapperformans (Known also as Yüzüm Kitap: ISBN 9786054623112; 2012 onwards) / MyFace Bookperformance (known also as MyFace Book: ISBN 9786056440816; 2014 onwards) is the first textual piece in Çiğdem Mirol's Bookperformance QUARTET and a self-published edition produced exclusively in connection with Bookperformance events.
