Abstract

This study will analyze how hunger and famine are thematised in Borana folktales in the context of wider practices of storytelling. Situated at the intersections of oral literature and oral history, the project is guided by 4 focal areas: 1) fiction, memory and history; 2) gender representations; 3) memory production and state politics; 4) narrative intersections between politics and ecology.
