Christina Bezari is a doctoral researcher at the Department of Literary Studies of Ghent University. She is a member of the five-year research project funded by an ERC Starting Grant (2015-2020) under the title: “Agents of Change: Women Editors and Socio-Cultural Transformation in Europe”. As part of this project, she examines the connections between literary periodicals and literary salons held in Spain, Italy, Portugal and Greece during the fin-de-siècle period (1880-1910). The comparative nature of her project has allowed her to bring an insight into the evolution of salon culture through time, the role of the periodical editor in mediating between private and public as well as between cultures, the reception of the salon by the readers, and finally, the networks of co-operation that female editors established through their salon activities.
Christina has previously worked on the project “Les Imaginaires de la Traduction”, which was awarded by the Campus Condorcet (Paris-Aubervilliers) in February 2016. As member of this project, she focused on the philosophical aspects of translation in the work of the German poet Novalis. More specifically, she has written about the grammatical, interpretative and mythical aspects of the translation process placing particular emphasis on the notion of the imaginary and its importance in each of this three categories. In addition, she is the guest editor of a special issue of the French journal Itinéraires. Littérature, textes, cultures, which will appear in December 2018 on the subject of literary translation. She has organised conferences and lectures in Paris, Washington DC, and Pittsburgh. Her most recent articles were published in international peer-reviewed journals: Confluencia, Forum Italicum, Romance Studies, Portuguese Studies, Australian Journal of French Studies.
