Dr. Christina Bezari

I am a post-doctoral researcher and teaching assistant at Ghent University (Belgium). My research is located at the intersection of periodical studies, translation studies and women's history. My current project examines a group of Spanish women poets who engaged with avant-garde themes and participated in transnational literary circles. The goal of the project is to situate these women poets in a transnational context and compare their work with that of their European and Latin American counterparts. By looking at poetry collections, literary translations and avant-garde magazines, this project questions Spain’s exclusion from studies of the international avant-garde and views Spanish women poets as mediators across cultural and geographical borders. 

In the past years, I have been a guest professor in comparative French literature at Paris-Diderot and a lecturer in English literature at Ghent University. I have also co-directed a project on comparative translation studies at Sorbonne University and I have organized international conferences in Paris, Washington D.C. and Pittsburgh. My articles published in three languages (English, Spanish and French) have focused on comparative literature and literary translation, nineteenth-century salon culture and women’s history in Southern Europe. I have recently published my first monograph "Transnational Modernity in Southern Europe: Women’s Periodicals and Salon Culture" (Routledge 2022).
