Leonoor Kuijk studied historical literature at the University of Amsterdam. She was the co-founder and editor of Terra Incognita, a publishing house for colonial literature. After an initial career in journalism she started in 2013 with a PhD-project at Ghent University. The topic of the project: how national identity took shape in literary and visual sketches around 1840 in Spain, France, England, Belgium and the Netherlands (finished 2018). She was a review editor of the academic periodical Early Popular Visual Culture (2017-2019). She now works as a cataloguer of French nineteenth-century lithography at the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.
