Hilde De Vaere (°1957) obtained a master's degree in Germanic Languages and Literature at Ghent University (Belgium) for Dutch and English in 1979. She completed a complementary program for German in 1980. Subsequently she was a teacher of English, Dutch and German at a secondary school from 1981 until her retirement in 2016. In 2009 she took a post-graduate course in Scandinavian languages at Ghent University, which she completed in 2012. Thereafter she got her master's degree in Scandinavian Languages and Literature in 2015. As a retired teacher she worked as a doctoral researcher at the Department of Linguistics at Ghent University. Her research focused on the syntax/semantics interface, especially on the (corpus-based) study of alternating syntactic constructions with ditransitive verbs in contemporary German. She obtained her PhD in 2020. She is currently a volunteer postdoctoral researcher at Ghent University and focuses on the semantics/pragmatics interface.

Hilde De Vaere (°1957) studeerde Germaanse talen (Engels en Nederlands) aan UGent tussen 1975 en 1979. Daarna volgde ze een aanvullende kandidatuur Duits. Van 1981 tot 2016 was ze lerares Engels, Nederlands en Duits in het middelbaar onderwijs. In 2009 begon ze, in combinatie met haar baan als leraar, een postgraduaat Scandinavistiek. Ze behaalde haar master in de Scandinavistiek in 2015 met een thesis over woordvorming. In 2016 ging ze met pensioen en begon ze aan een doctoraat in de taalkunde, dat ze in 2020 succesvol afsloot. Haar onderzoek bestudeerde de interactie tussen syntaxis en semantiek, meer bepaald een (corpusgebaseerde) studie van alternerende syntactische constructies met ditransitieve werkwoorden in het hedendaags Duits. In haar huidig postdoctoraal onderzoek focust ze op de interactie tussen semantiek en pragmatiek.
