Manhal Makhoul obtained his Ph.D from the Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, in 2018. His thesis entitled La branche syrienne de l’historiographie d’Égypte: échanges textuels et culturels was prepared in the framework of the the "International Copto-Arabic History project" (ICAHP) whose objective is the edition of the entire corpus of the History of the Patriarchs of Alexandria (HPA). The thesis deals with the cultural exchanges between the Coptic and Syriac communities, and addresses the remarkable phenomenon of writing Arabic in the Syriac script, a system known as karšūnī.
Since October 2018 he works as part-time Arabic language teacher (25%) at UCLouvain, and since January 2019 he has been involved as Research Assistant in the MMS-II project.
