Aretina Bellizzi is a FWO junior postdoctoral research fellow. She studied Classics at the University of Rome La Sapienza, where she received a Bachelor (2014) and a Master degree (2017) in Classic Philology. After a Masters in cinema at the University of Urbino (2017) she obtained a PhD at the University of Trento with a thesis on the reception of Plato in the work of Giacomo Leopardi. She received a postdoctoral grant (2022) at Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Filosofici of Naples with research on the reception of Plato in eighteenth-century Italy. As part of the Project "Leopardi and the Ancient: a digital archive", she was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Trento, working on research on the eighteenth-century mediators of antiquity in Giacomo Leopardi.
At the University of Gent, she works on the vernacular translations of Plato carried out in Italy during the modern age.
