I graduated as a translator of Dutch-English-Russian at the Katholieke Vlaamse Hogeschool in Antwerp, Belgium in 1986. After gaining some initial experience with teaching Russian at an evening school in Antwerp, I became one of the co-founders of the Russian Department at the Provinciale Hogeschool voor Vertalers en Tolken (PHVT) in Ghent in 1992. I have continued to serve in the capacity of teaching assistant ever since as the Russian Department became part of the Mercator Hogeschool, Hogeschool Gent and eventually Universiteit Gent. Most of my teaching has focused on writing skills, phonetics, grammar, vocabulary, Russian-Dutch translation and Russian-English translation.
I have also been closely involved since the mid-1990s in the practical organization of student exchange projects with our partner universities in Russia and have also had the opportunity to teach both in Moscow and Kursk in the framework of these projects.
