Brandon Ferlito holds an MSc. in Medicine (Bioethics and Health Law) from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, where his dissertation explored dual loyalty and human rights in South Africa. He has published extensively on medical ethics, health law, and health policy, with research interests spanning applied ethics in private and public life, professional ethics, health, technology, and law.
Previously, Brandon served as the bioethicist for the South African Medical Association (SAMA). In 2022, he joined the DIME ERC project as a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Heidi Mertes and Prof. Seppe Segers. His doctoral research critically examines the evolving moral responsibilities in healthcare due to disruptive innovations, particularly the shift from healthcare providers to data collectors.
Brandon’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Public Health (2016), a Bachelor of Health Sciences with Honours in Bioethics and Health Law (cum laude) (2017), an MSc (Med) in Bioethics and Health Law (2019), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health (cum laude) (2022).
