Eva Van de Wiele is FWO Junior Postdoc in the Literary Studies Department at Ghent University. She received her Joint Ph.D. in Literary Studies from KULeuven and Ghent University in September 2022. Her dissertation focused on globalization in children's periodicals containing comics from early-twentieth-century Spain and Italy. Her current project explores the production and reception of European children's magazines revolving around the Disney character Mickey Mouse: Topolino launched in 1932 and Le Journal de Mickey started in 1934. Her research lies at the interdisciplinary crossroads that these cultural artifacts embody: they are material objects of childhood, using a European format of children's press particularly popular from the 1930s to the 1960s, and are heavily marked by their socio-historical context. Eva's other interests include girlhood studies, play theory, consumer culture and fandom, and intermediality.
