Janiça Hackenbuchner is a PhD student in the LT3 Language and Translation Technology team at Ghent University, where she is researching on gender bias in machine translation. Her work is being supervised by Joke Daems and Arda Tezcan (FWO PhD project). She co-hosted the four International Workshops on Gender-Inclusive Translation Technologies as well as the 1st International Workshop on Teaching AI-based Translation and Technologies at the European Association for Machine Translation. She is a member of the Erasmus+-funded consortium LT-LiDER, a project for the language and translation community that fosters AI literacy by means of theoretical foundations and resources. She was operational lead of the DataLitMT project, where she developed learning resources for teaching data literacy in the context of machine translation literacy. She is co-founder of DeBiasByUs, a platform to raise awareness of and create datasets for gender bias in machine translation, which was a winning project at a Goethe-Institut hackathon in 2021. She holds an MA in Specialised Translation from Cologne University of Applied Sciences, and a Bachelor in Sciences from Amsterdam University College.
