Margot Vanhaverbeke obtained her Master's degrees in Spanish and English Linguistics and Literature (2019) and Multilingual Business Communication (2020) at Ghent University. During her Bachelor, she studied one semester at the University of Alcalá De Henares (Spain).
After being granted an FWO Fellowship in 2020, she started her PhD research project under the joint supervision of Prof. Dr. Renata Enghels and Prof. Dr. Rob Hartsuiker. Her project focuses on the expression of the diminutive construction in Spanish-English codeswitching contexts in the United States. She is particularly interested in how the diminutive as a conflict site in Spanish-English codeswitching is formed and used and whether it is possible to determine underlying codeswitching patterns. Adopting a multimethod approach, her PhD project combines corpus research as well as an experimental aspect which will be carried out in the El Paso (Texas) and Miami (Florida).
