I am a Visiting Professor in the Department of Linguistics (semester 2, 2026) teaching English Linguistics: Language and Literature, specifically, Stylistics to Postgraduate students in English literature and Education.
I am an Honorary Affiliate at Kingston University, UK and Associate Professor in English Language and Linguistics and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Authority (SFHEA). I was the Course Leader for BA Creative Writing and BA Creative Writing and Film Cultures. Other roles included Departmental Study Abroad coordinator, Departmental Level 4 Personal Tutorial Coordinator, and Module Leader for the PGR Teaching and Learning in the Arts module. Previously, I was Head of Department of Linguistics and Languages and Course Director for BA English Language and Linguistics.
I am the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Literary Semantics (JLS) and a previous Chair of the Poetics and Linguistics Association (PALA). I am a member of the Poetics and Linguistics Association (PALA) and the International Society for the Study of Narratives (ISSN)
I have published widely with over 40 publications. My books include ‘Narrative Retellings’ (Bloomsbury, 2021), ‘Disnarration and the Unmentioned in Fact and Fiction’ (Palgrave, 2019), ‘Contemporary Stylistics’ (Bloomsbury, 2007) and The Irritating Gentleman and Other Creative Writing Prompts and Responses (Kingston University Press, 2024).
