Education: Master in archaeology at the KULeuven (1992) MA-thesis: Anthropomorphic coroplastics in de Minoan and Mycenaean house, palatial and urban sanctuaries – supoervisor Marc Waelkens. Erasmus-grant at the Aristoteles University Thessaloniki (Greece) (1991).
After my studies in 1992 I started to work at the educational services of the Royal Museums of Art and History (RMAH) to conducting workshops, seminars, conferences, exhibitions and participating at archaeological excavations abroad (Turkey, Jordan, Egypt).
In 1999 I moved to a large-scale excavation project in Tienen (Belgium) where 18 hectares of a Roman vicus including Iron Age and medieval structures were excavated. In this period, I started to work on glass and excavated a Roman secondary glass workshop. This project lasted until 2003. During this period we organized a temporary exhibition on Roman glass.
In 2004 I became a high school teacher Latin and History at the Lyceum Martha Somers in Laken, Brussels. I combined this part-time job with that of registrar at the Gallo-Roman Museum of Tongeren. In this period, I co-organized an international conference on Roman glass with the Gallo-Roman Museum of Tongeren.
In 2005 I received a PhD-grant of the Free University Brussels (OZR-project 1247 BOF) under supervision of Professor Karin Nys to start research on Roman black glass. During my PhD I received travel grants from the Fund for Scientific Research to study glass in Slovenia and Switzerland. In this period, I co-organized 17th International congress of the Association Internationale pour l’Histoire du Verre (AIHV17 Antwerp 2006) (4-8/9/2006) and the 8 th edition of the Postgraduate conference on Cypriot Archaeology – POCA 2008 at the Free University Brussels (VUB) (27-29/11/2008). Before I managed to finalize my PhD in 2011 I acted as academic assistant of the Department of Archaeology and Art Sciences for 6-months in 2010 and in 2011-2012 I started at the company TRIARCH as field archaeologist to carry out preventive archaeological research.
After my public defense on February 9th 2012 I started as associate-director of the department culture of the stad Tongeren to study the local archaeological sites in and around.
From the academic year 2013-2014 I was appointed associate professor ad interim during the sabbatical of Professor Karin Nys.
In 2014 I received an FWO-grant (FWOTM744) for postdoctoral research on ‘Glass production and consumption in Cyprus in late antiquity (4th – 7 th century AD)’ The research was combined with a 10% position as associate professor in Greek and Roman Art and history.
When the 5-year tenure track ended in 2018 I did not apply for a renewed tenure track because it did not suitable with the startup of an archaeological company (PeCo ARCHEO bv) to carry out preventive archaeological research and heritage studies. The following years I stayed member of the Department of Archaeology and Art Sciences of Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) as honorary postdoctoral research fellow. I continued my postdoctoral research on late antique glass in Cyprus and collaborated with the University of Glasgow (KAGC-project in Kourion), University of Zurich (Palaepaphos), University of Cyprus (House of Orpheus, Paphos & Yeroskipou), Princeton University (Polis).
Since July 15th 2022, I moved to Ghent University (UGent) at the Department of Archaeology Universiteit Gent to continue my research on archaeological glass as honorary postdoctoral research fellow assisgned to Prof. Dr. Joachim Bretschneider.
This continued scientific research on archaeological glass is combined with my work as an independent archaeological contractor providing a range of services and advice on archaeological issues arising from construction works and consultancy for museums.
