WHAT IS BOOKPERFORMANCE?
Bookperformance, equally Performancebook, is a proprietary concept coined by Çiğdem Mirol in 2011, reserved in all languages, reflecting life as an ongoing practice-theory of “holding space for life’s unfolding authorship.” Deliberately written together, it approaches co-authorship as an embodied, relational, and ethical practice grounded in her “we are all one” worldview. Since 2011, Mirol has developed Bookperformance internationally through artistic and academic (MA, PhD) practice (supervised through UGent and KASK) which evolved through the authorship studies into life. It includes her self-invented alphabet of sounds and colours, “multisensory reading-writing” © through which Mirol live-paints/draws/writes compositions that touches human essence from names such as Coltrane, Satie, Wagner; and a body of pieces performed and published in connection with Bookperformance manifestations. Yüzüm Kitapperformans (2012) / MyFace Bookperformance (2014), which critically engages with social media and processes of digitisation, is a self-published, non-commercial textual work forming one of the four pieces of Çiğdem y Mirol’s Bookperformance QUARTET. It questions practices of authorship, authority, knowledge-making, and copyright, and has unfolded through hundreds of manifestations across countries, languages, and media. Its living impact extends beyond each event and encounter through tree planting, with thousands of trees planted worldwide. It extends genuine resources of life across artistic, academic, and public spaces, intervening in unquestioned practices of authority, authorship, and knowledge-making, and promoting responsibility within co-authorship.
