Abstract

In the context of globalization, the rising trend of seeking medical treatment abroad highlights the critical role of effective communication in healthcare. This research investigates the complexities of pain expression in English and Chinese, focusing on both native speakers and language learners. The study aims to identify distinctions and similarities in pain expressions across these languages, emphasizing the influence of linguistic and cultural factors. By improving multilingual pain assessment tools, this research seeks to enhance healthcare delivery and foster a deeper understanding of cross-cultural communication and sensitivity training in medical contexts. Ultimately, our findings aspire to contribute to better patient care and the development of effective pain assessment strategies in diverse linguistic environments.
