Abstract

This project examines the diverse representations of early Judaism across the German-speaking lands of the 19th century. In view of the rising nation-state, it illuminates the importance of the ancient past for the modern political present, the effects of that present on reconstructing antiquity, and the significance of place for knowledge-production.

The undertaking is generously funded through a fellowship from the Research Foundation–Flanders (FWO).
