In this project I will address epistemological questions about the aims, the functioning and the results of truth commissions. These questions will be related to themes such as their different (epistemic) goals, their different forms of evidence (e.g. testimony) and the selection procedures for individual commissioners. I will focus in my analysis on 4 cases of truth commissions, viz. El Salvador, Chile, Argentina and South-Africa.
