Tine Scheijnen (°1989, Antwerp) obtained her PhD in Literary Studies at Ghent University (Special Research Fund, supervised by prof. Kristoffel Demoen). In 2016, she joined the research team of prof. Koen De Temmerman as a postdoctoral researcher.
Her research specialty lies in heroic characterization in Troy literature (esp. Homer and Quintus of Smyrna) and its reception in medieval romance. In 2018, she published “Quintus of Smyrna’s Posthomerica, a study of heroic characterization and heroism”. Together with dr. Berenice Verhelst, she has edited "Greek and Latin Poetry of Late Antiquity: Form, Tradition, and Context" (Cambridge University Press 2022). A new volume project "Enchanted reception" (together with dr. Ellen Söderblom Saarela) is currently in progress. She has a heart for science communication, writing blogs (in both English and Dutch), creating workshops for schools and videos.
As a visiting scholar, she has undertaken research stays to the University of Oxford (including visiting membership of Corpus Christi College: 2015) and to the Centre for Medieval Studies in York (2018). Both were supported by an FWO grant for long stay abroad. A complete list of her contributions to conferences and workshops can be found under this link.
Between 2020-2021, she worked as the co-secretary of the Belgian Young Academy. Within Ghent University, she is engaged in several teaching activities and committees. She teaches Greek literature and Ancient Rhetoric, was vice-president of the UGent Postdoc Community for several years (2019-2022) and is part of the Greek Outreach Team (>> teaching, services and activities).
