Abstract

In this research project we aim to draw together L2 learners’ idiomatic knowledge (i.e. the specificity of the range of preconstructed word combinations in the target language) in German with learners’ ability to navigate intercultural situations. We will investigate the relationship between (1) language learners’ intercultural competence, (2) their pragmalinguistic competence, (3) their sociopragmatic competence, (4) their language proficiency, (5) their vocabulary size and (6) their language aptitude. We also investigate the development of the phraseological and intercultural competence of L2 learners in German.
