Thomas Velle (°1991) is a postdoctoral research fellow of the FWO (Research Foundation – Flanders), affiliated to the Department of Literary Studies at Ghent University. He is engaged in the fields of Latin and comparative literature, focusing on travel literature and epigrams from Western and Northern Europe (17th and 18th century). In May 2018, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the imaginary voyage and best-selling novel Nicolai Klimii iter subterraneum of the Danish-Norwegian author Ludvig Holberg (1684-1754). Since October 2018, Velle works on the project “The Republic of Epigrams. The Latin Epigram and the Multilingual Self in Seventeenth- and Eighteenth-Century Europe.” Velle is also editor of the online, open-access journal JOLCEL (Journal of Latin Cosmopolitanism and European Literatures) of the international research group RELICS.
