Joanne Vera Stolk (born 1987, The Netherlands) completed a BA in Classics and a BA in Comparative Indo-European Linguistics at the University of Leiden (2005-2009), followed by a MA in Ancient History at the KU Leuven and a ResMA in Linguistics at the University of Leiden (2009-2012). She obtained her PhD title at the University of Oslo with a dissertation on changes in the Greek case system based on the language of documentary papyri (Title: Case Variation in Greek Papyri. Retracing dative case syncretism in the language of the Greek documentary papyri and ostraca from Egypt (300 BCE-800 CE)). After submission of her PhD thesis, she taught Greek language courses at the University of Oslo and worked on editions of Greek and Coptic papyri from the papyrus collection of the Oslo University Library. During her postdoctoral projects as a fellow of the Research Foundation Flanders (2016-2022) and as a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellow (NFR COFUND) at the University of Oslo (2017-2020), she studied orthographic norms in documentary papyri based on the linguistic corrections by ancient scribes. In 2022-2023 she will start a new postdoctoral project taking a cognitive approach to spelling in documentary papyri and teach courses in Greek papyrology and Coptic at Leiden University.
