Falco Van der Schueren (°1992) obtained a bachelor’s degree in secondary education at the Artevelde University Campus and a master’s degree in history at Ghent University. For his dissertation about the organization of voluntary jurisdiction in late medieval Hainaut, he received the annual Award André Schaepdrijver 2019, conferred by the Ghent alumni association ‘Oud-Studenten Geschiedenis Gent’ (OSGG). After his studies, he worked as a freelance research consultant and project developer at the request of several research institutions, cultural heritage organizations and private individuals. Awarded with a Phd Fellowship Fundamental Research by the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO) he initiated his research project on the organization of voluntary jurisdiction in Hainaut and Flanders during the late Middle Ages under the supervision of prof. dr. Els De Paermentier (Henri Pirenne Institute for Medieval Studies) and prof. dr. Dirk Heirbaut (Institute for Legal History): “Shared interest or mutual competition? The organization of voluntary jurisdiction in the Southern Low Countries during the late Middle Ages (1278-1433)”.
