Gijs Heynickx studied applied linguistics at KU Leuven in Antwerp, after which he got a Master in Journalism and a Master in Interpreting. Specialising in multimodal conversation analysis, he is now studying the use of gestures in remote psychotherapy interactions with interpreters for his PhD project. The research will focus on the role of metaphoric gestures in interactional phenomena such as repair and stance taking.
