Jasper Degraeuwe holds a Master's degree in Interpreting (Dutch, English, Spanish) and a Postgraduate Certificate Computer-Assisted Language Mediation, both of which he obtained at Ghent University. In October 2024, he successfully defended his PhD entitled "IVESS: Intelligent Vocabulary and Example Selection for Spanish vocabulary learning", funded by Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) and carried out at Ghent University. With the IVESS project, he aimed to (1) improve natural language processing (NLP)-driven methodologies for Intelligent Computer-Assisted Language Learning (ICALL) purposes and (2) gauge the attitudes of teachers and students towards working with automatically generated vocabulary learning materials.
He is affiliated with the LT³ and MULTIPLES research groups at the Ghent University Department of Translation, Interpreting and Communication, where he is currently working as a postdoctoral researcher on a voluntary basis. Apart from ICALL, his primary research interests include second language acquisition (SLA), corpus linguistics, and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI).
