Since September 2024, Lien Vandenberghe is working on a PhD project titled Painted and Material Interiors in the 15th and 16th-Century Low Countries: Towards a Spatial Turn of Domestic Material Culture. The project investigates the representation of the interior on 15th and 16th century Flemish paintings, more specifically paintings with religious iconography. The spatial arrangement of objects and furniture is the main focus. The project is a collaboration between the Department of Art History at Ghent University and the Center of Urban studies of the University of Antwerp.
In 2024, Lien Vandenberghe published her first book as co-author with her supervisor Prof. Dr. Koenraad Jonckheere, titled Reflections - Views on the Collection Flemish Community on a long-hidden collection. Of the 40,000 pieces that make up the Collection Flemish Community, only a small portion hangs in the halls of major museum. The book reveals the Flanders' collecting practices with art works from different media and time periods.
In 2026, Lien Vandenberghe published a second book titled Willem and Adriaen Thomasz. Key: Fresh perspectives on their oeuvres, an addendum to the previously published monographs on the Flemish painters by Prof. Dr. Koenraad Jonckheere. This books adds an impressive amount of history and mostly portrait paintings to the oeuvres of two major painters in 16th-century Antwerp.
Besides these major publications, Lien Vandenberghe also collaborated on art exhibitions in the Albertina Museum in Vienna, the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent, the Catharijneconvent in Utrecht and the BOZAR in Brussels.
