Louis Schreel works and teaches as a teaching assistant at the Department of Philosophy and Moral Sciences, Ghent University (Belgium). His research expertise lies at the intersection of phenomenology, philosophy of cognitive science and aesthetics. His research focuses on questions pertaining to the continuity between life and mind, the relation between brain and mind, the origins of intentionality in bodily movement and affectivity, and the relation between metabolism, cognition and the emergence of self.
Before coming to Ghent, Louis studied philosophy at KU Leuven and obtained his PhD from Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf and University of Antwerp in 2018, with a dissertation on the relation between self-organization and feeling of life in Kant and Deleuze. Concurrently with his doctoral research he has also been a Visiting Lecturer at KISD – Köln International School of Design and Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf.
