Abstract

Radical revenge examines the relationship between subject formation and providentialism in Aristotelian tragedies, revenge tragedies and French-classicist tragedies in the Dutch Republic between 1638 and 1678. An attentive reading of the corpus from this cultural-historical perspective should lead to a better understanding of the peculiar position which the revenge tragedy occupies in this misunderstood development phase of Dutch drama.
