Robin Waeytens (°1999, Aalst) received his Master of Arts in History (2024) at Ghent University, specialising in medieval history. For his Master’s dissertation, he studied the central administration of the counties of Flanders and Hainaut during the reign of Margaret of Constantinople (r. 1244-1278/1280). In January 2025, he began his doctoral research which explores the organisation and instrumentalisation of the pre-Burgundian archives of the Counts of Flanders during the late 14th and late 16th centuries, supervised by prof. dr. Els De Paermentier and prof. dr. Jeroen Deploige. His research interests include archival history, the political history of the 13th and 14th centuries, and the pragmatic use of the written word in medieval society. He also maintains a strong scholarly interest in the ‘auxiliary’ sciences of history, such as paleography, diplomatics, and sigillography. His work contributes to a deeper understanding of the administrative and documentary practices that shaped medieval governance.
