Teaches in English an elective course on graduate level: Interculturality: a Philosophy of Language Perspective, accessible to BA3 Exchange students and postgraduate students.
Abstract:
Subject of this course is the philosophical question of the knowledge of other cultures. This is a difficult question for two reasons: firstly, there is no consensual definition of the concept of culture, and secondly, observable differences between societies inevitably lead to relativism, and eventually to the denial of truth. Nevertheless there seems to be general agreement on the essential role of language in the life of man. Therefore, we take the linguistic model based approaches originated by Claude Lévi-Strauss and the one initiated by Clifford Geertz as the core of our considerations.
