Jennie Elenor Arrington Báez obtained a Master's Degree in Hispanic Linguistics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (2014). During her Bachelor’s degree, she studied one year at The University of León(Spain) and was certified in Italian, English and French languages. She joined the Spanish Linguistics department in April 2022 and started her PhD research, carried out under the joint supervision of Prof. Dr. Marlies Jansegers and Prof. Dr. Renata Enghels.
Her research focuses on apologizing strategies in Spanish. This phenomenon will be studied from complementary perspectives, taking into account different dimensions of linguistic variation, including (1) a (micro)diachronic dimension, (2) a sociolinguistic dimension in contemporary Spanish and (3) a contrastive dimension. Methodologically, her research is mainly corpus-based and is conducted in a functional-cognitive perspective.
In 2014, she was awarded a scholarship at Instituto de Investigaciones Filológicas UNAM(Mexico) and collaborated on the development of an electronic corpus of verbal constructions in Mexican Spanish under a project entitled Predicados verbales del español: su estructura argumental y su realización sintáctica en datos de uso del habla mexicana (IN401313-3) led by Dra. Chantal Melis and Dr. Sergio Ibáñez.
