Carla Besora Barti is a PhD candidate at Ghent University and the University of Amsterdam. She works within the ERC-funded research project "Later-in-life intimacy" (LiLI), which investigates women’s later life intimacy. Her research explores how women seek and navigate sensuality in later life, with a particular curiosity towards the potential of pleasure to subvert social norms. She explores sensual work practices, erotic friendships and pleasure-oriented communities run by older women. Carla’s background in visual arts informs her interdisciplinary approach that aims to bring together artistic practice and feminist anthropology. After training in the arts in Barcelona and Ghent, she obtained a interuniversity MA in Gender and Diversity (2021) organized by the five Dutch speaking Belgian universities. She is affiliated with the Centre for Research on Culture and Gender (CRCG) at Ghent University, where she has co-organised symposia, seminars and other academic events. She is particularly interested in exploring the intertwinement of the poetic and the political in the realms of gender, sexuality, spirituality and the arts.
