Iannis Goerlandt is a language lecturer in English literature at Ghent University (UGent) and a language teacher at the secondary education level.
He holds Master’s degrees in German and English from Ghent University and Universität Rostock, and in American Studies from the University of Antwerp. He also earned a PhD in German Literature from Ghent University in 2006, with his dissertation Schulen zur Allegorie focusing on the utopian prose of German post-war novelist Arno Schmidt, particularly the construction and function of national images within this genre. His research interests span imagology, dystopian literature, paratextuality, irony, and New Sincerism.
Dr Goerlandt is also a seasoned translator, with notable translations including works by David Foster Wallace, Sheila Heti, and Insa Meinen. His translation efforts were recognized in 2017 with a nomination for the prestigious Filter Translation Prize.
