Ishka Desmedt (°1996) is a PhD Student at the Department of History at Ghent University. She has obtained her MA in History at Ghent University (2018), where she continued to pursue a degree in Conflict and Development Studies. Her main research focus lies at the intersection of social and environmental history, but she also takes an interest in the history of science and technology. Her current project deals with the resistance against genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) in Europe. She pays specific attention to the role of transnational (environmentalist) networks and the early emergence of critical ideas on biotechnology within activist communities.
