Matthijs Zoeter studied Classics at the Radboud University of Nijmegen (20`13-2019), during which he was an exchange student at the University of Edinburgh (2017). After graduating with a thesis on the letters of Sidonius Apollinaris and completing a Master of Education, Matthijs has been working as a doctoral student within the project ‘Lobbying in Late Antiquity’ of Prof. Dr. Lieve Van Hoof (Ghent University) since 2019. The focus of his PhD project, entitled Basil of Caesarea: Networking, Lobbying and Self-presentation in his Letters and Letter Collection (funded by the Special Research Fund (BOF) of Ghent University), are the letters and the letter collection of Basil, bishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia (ca. AD 328-378). He is especially interested in Basil's use of letters for crafting epistolary personae and in the ways later collections of Basil's letters infuenced the reader's perception of the bishop.
