The aim of this project is to develop principled analyses of the four syntactic or pragmatic issues listed below in (i-iv), and investigate their relevance for the general question to what extent and how clause typing and pragmatic information are syntacticized. The project consists of 4 sub-projects: (i) the precise semantic formalization of the pragmatic information encoded by jussive particles; (ii) exploring to what extent and how the pragmatic effects identified are mapped onto the syntax; (iii) examining sentential negation in jussive clauses and its relevance for the syntax of negation in Korean and in general; (iv) explaining the constraints imposed upon coordinated jussive clauses and its relevance for the restrictions on coordination in general. In addition, I will produce two general overview papers that relate the research results to more general issues.
