Data are collected by and under supervision of Koen Stroeken and Mrisho Malipula (Mzumbe U) on the current significance of traditional institutions in north and western Tanzania such as village initiation (ihane, Suk.), divination, chiefship (butemi, Suk.) and spirit mediumship (buchwezi). We consider the risen mobility of Sukuma herders and the recent government request for transparency/ intermediacy by traditional leaders. The potential for longterm citizen science is explored.
