At the core of the project is a large-scale study of the development of literary history as an academic discipline in Bulgaria from the Liberation (1878) to the present day, considered in comparison with leading international trends over the last 25 years. Through a systematic review and thematic organization of all major literary histories produced in Bulgaria, the team will identify the new approaches that have emerged since the 1990s and examine them in the context of contemporary global practices. A particular focus will be placed on the role of literary historiography in preserving, shaping, and critically rethinking national identity.
