Abstract

The doctoral research consists of an empirical and normative analysis of two specific forms of science communication practices regarding evolving and uncertain scientific topics. The first one is a public engagement study regarding the legislation (including ethical aspects) of CRISPR-Cas9 with Flemish and South African young adolescents, in collaboration with the University of KwaZulu-Natal and the University of the Western Cape in South Africa. The second one is a risk communication study regarding the WHO's communication on X regarding airborne transmission of COVID-19 during the pandemic. These studies will be used as case studies to tackle more normative-related questions and issues of science communication during uncertain times.
