Bruges’ role as late-medieval harbour and “maritime cultural landscape” is inextricably associated with the dynamic interaction between man and nature via the Zwin tidal inlet. The connectivity within the local and with the global trade networks, the transactions in commodities as well as the impact of residing foreigners on material culture is the subject of this interdisciplinary study.
