Abstract

The PhD project involves a study of the dental and skeletal remains from all Neolithic sites in Belgium to answer the following questions. Who were the Neolithic people of Belgium and how did they live?

Although more than 150 Neolithic sites with human remains in Belgium have been excavated and studied, little is known about the people and their lifeways. This project will provide complete inventory of the sites, a reexamination of the human remains and study of the Neolithic population in its entirety. A combination of osteological and molecular analyses provides the opportunity to shed light on the health, diet, activity, and mobility of Belgium’s first farmers.
