Abstract

he educational innovation project Omeka-FLWI aims to implement the web publication platform Omeka S(emantic) in the teaching practices at Ghent University’s Faculty of Arts and Philosophy. Omeka S offers teachers the possibility to let students (a) create and manage their own digital collection and (b) set up virtual exhibitions. The project is part of the broader long-term ambition to introduce and structurally embed the Digital Humanities’ manifold methods and tools across the faculty and university as a whole for research, educational and science communication purposes.  The Omeka-FLWI project comprises a technical and a pedagogical part. Technically, the Omeka infrastructure is installed on UGent servers and gradually enriched with extra modules for mapping, transcription, annotation and other digital tools. A blended learning module combining workshops, a video tutorial, a manual, best practices, literature and a SWOT-analysis provides the necessary support for both teachers and students who want to use Omeka S.

Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for teachers who want to work with Omeka S in their classes can be found in the SWOT-analysis (Dutch) developed by GhentCDH.
