Abstract

The main goal of the project is to describe and explain the developmental pattern of subject case inIcelandic as a second language within the context of Processability Theory (PT) (Pienemann,1998; Pienemann, Di Biase, & Kawaguchi, 2005; Bettoni & Di Biase, 2015). PT is a theory of second language acquisition which predicts orders of emergence of morphosyntactic elements in L2 production data. The theory has been used to predict and explain L2 case development in German (Baten, 2013), Russian (Artoni, 2015), and Serbian (DiBiase et al., 2015). The present project will investigate the applicability of PT to case acquisition in L2 Icelandic.
