This project challenges the established chronology of the Counter-Reformation by investigating Catholic investments in material culture in the Low Countries in the transitional period from c. 1535 to c. 1585. Our interdisciplinary project focuses on the church building and will pay special attention to the dynamic interplay between stylistic experiments and the ritual uses of objects during Habsburg ceremonies.
Dit project stelt de chronologie van de contrareformatie in vraag door een onderzoek naar katholieke investeringen in materiële cultuur in de Nederlanden in de overgangsperiode tussen ca. 1535 en ca. 1585. Dit interdisciplinair project legt de focus op het kerkgebouw en zal bijzondere aandacht besteden aan de interactie tussen stilistische experimenten en het rituele gebruik van objecten tijdens Habsburgse ceremonies.
