Micol Long is a Senior Postdoctoral Fellow of the Research Foundation-Flanders (FWO) at the Department of History of Ghent University (Belgium). Her researches focus on the religious and cultural history of the High Middle Ages, with particular attention to letter-writing, monasticism, education and mobility. She obtained her PhD in History in 2013 at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa (Italy), with a dissertation about letter-writing which was published in 2014. She had published articles in the Journal of Religious History, Cahiers de civilisation médiévale, Moyen Âge, Reti medievali , Revue Mabillon and Le Moyen Âge; her second monograph Learning as Shared Practice in Monastic Communities, 1070–1180 will appear in Brill's series Education and Society in the Middle Ages in September 2021. She also co-edited the volume Horizontal Learning in the High Middle Ages Peer-to-Peer Knowledge Transfer in Religious Communities. She has spent research stays in France (École Nationale des Chartes, Sorbonne), Germany (Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich / Monumenta Germaniae Historica), Italy (Academia Belgica, Rome) and Denmark (Centre for Medieval Literature of Odense). She is currently completing a monograph on shared educational practices in monastic communities in the long twelfth century.
